- Mountain gorillas remain under constant threat from poaching, loss of habit due to deforestation and destructive diseases instigated by humans such as the Ebola virus.
- Since their deployment in the area, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund has increased the gorilla populations inside of their protected areas by 17%.
- Human poverty in Africa is linked directly to gorilla deaths due to hunting for gorilla meat and pelts, and the spread of human diseases. The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund donates money and invests time into the education of human populations to help stop the unnecessary culling of all animals.
- Gorillas are the closest living relatives to humans behind the chimpanzee, sharing up to 95% of our genetic makeup.
It is because of humans that gorillas are on the cusp of complete extinction. It’s time to change this.
